Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is New Zealand’s newest university. AUT first came into being in 1885 as the Auckland Technical School and it had a roll of 30 students. At this time AUT was a school for learning trades teaching subjects such as mechanical and architectiral drawing, cookery and dressmaking.

In 1989 AUT was called the Auckland Insititute of Technology and it became the first polytechnic in New Zealand to offer degrees and masters courses.

In 2000 AUT was changed from an institute to a University, become Auckland University of Technology.
